Why MExplor ?
We statrted as travellers. Going to a country and trying to see as much things as possible. After a few years travelling, leaving for longer periods of time and experiencing the backpacking travel mood, we became spectators and explorators. Take our time, following the opportunities, comtemplating the world through our own eyes and trully getting to know the people we met.
M for Mariane
Hey! I am Mariane, I come from France and have been travelling the world for the last 9 years, living a life of a wanderer soul looking for a spiritual connection with myself and the world. I arrived in Mexico in 2019 after 2 years travelling through South America and was forced, due the Covid-19, to stay in Mexico. I met Esteban and decided to create this travel blog with him to be able to go back on the roads as soon as possible.
E for Esteban
I am Esteban from Mexico; I have spent many years managing businesses and lately decided to focus on tourism and travel. I have been living in Cancun for 4 years and have travelled to a few countries and a lot in Mexico. When I met Mariane, her adventurous spirit and travel soul inspired me so much, I decided to join her in this blog adventure to be able to discover the world like she did and share it through this blog.
Xplor for Explore
When you start a long term travel without a returning date, your travel pace and interest change. Your take a break, step back to contemplate how the world is living. You start to take more time to immerge yourself in cultures, to have another vision on people way of lifes and habits, to try different type of food and realise the kindness of people. Travelling is an exchange between the traveler and the local. You don´t know them, they don´t know you. And the best way to discover a country is the connection with people. They create memories. This is when to start to travel as an explorer.
Bachata in Mexico by MExplor
Let´s Start from the Beginning
Prior to travelling and starting this website, we were just 2 average repective people, living “normal” lives back in France for Mariane and Esteban in Mexico – complete with proper full-time jobs, a fully furnished apartment, a vehicle and all of the other things that everyone should want to live a confortable life.
My first trip was in 2002, I was 18 and decided to do a year abroad to learn english. I left home for the first time with an organisation specialiszed in exchange student programms to Australia. I spent 10 months with a host family in Melbourne, going to high school, sharing the everyday life as part as their family. It was the first time I experience so much kindness from people who didn´t know me and reallu treated me as their daughter. First time for me also to challenge myself with missing home and family, language barrier, being the stanger and adapting myself to a new way of life. But, by staying strong and motivated, I made it through the year and came back to France fluent in English and full of good memories.
Then, back to France, as many people, I was having a comfortable life: a job, an apartment, a car. For some reason, I was not satisfied of this life, something was missing and I was always remembering the good feelings I knew during my year in Australia. One day, deperate for going on a trip, I applied for the Working Holiday Visa in Australia and got it approuved in a few hours. I was kind of shocked, not realising that I had my way up. So, convincing my brother and another friend, after 3 months of preparation, we were off for a year in Australia. We left for 1 year trip, 9 years have past. THE BEST DESICION OF MY LIFE and ONE OF THE BEST YEAR of MY LIFE. We left for 1 year, 9 years have past. Nine years travelling the world, exploring the richness of planet earth and discovering the beauty of people’s heart.
Yes, 9 years! Here’s your first question: how about the money? How did you finance it?
HANG ON! I didn´t say it was only 9 years of pure travel. Of course I worked.
After 1 year backpaking in Australia, working on farms, in hotels and restaurants, my brother left and I staying 1 more year in Australia, working in Broome (Australia is the best country to save money). Then, I moved to New Zealand where I ended spending 4 wonderful years in Queenstown. New Zealand will stay my heart country forever for its beautiful landscapes, nature, people and opportunities. I was having a perfect life, working in a famous winery/restaurants Amisfield for 7 to 8 months and travelling to Asia during winter time (June to September). I started to discover the South East Asia countries, trying to stay close to the local people, doing Couchsurfing and taking my time to enjoy each country. I fell in love with hiking in Nepal, with diving in Malaysia and in the Phillippines, with climbing volcanos in Indonesia and tring different type of food. The perfect life. Until the New Zealand immigration didn´t approve my 4th visa and I had to live the country. HEART BREAKING!
It was as if the world had stopped and all my dreams had vanished forever. It took me a wild to decide what to do. And, after trying several time to get a new visa, I finally accepted that it was not the path for me to follow. I went to India and did my Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh, taking this opportunity to recenter myself and trully decide what I wanted to do. Back in Kuala Lumpur ( where I settled down 3 month to make a decision) I learned how to dance salsa and bachata and met 2 girls, travelling the world, heading to South America. As we were getting on well, I follow them to Argentina, thinking of doinga 6 months trip. SECOND BEST DECISION IN MY LIFE.
Here starts the fun. Our trip in South America lasted 2 years. The best experience ever. We went through Argentina and Chili hichhiking, camped in border crossing offices, hiked in the Patagonian Andes for days, danced salsa in Buenos Aires and Colombia, met the most beautiful people on earth, and so much more adventures that you can see on our Facebook page Le monde des yayas. Well, after 2 years, we all had little money left and my 3 travel buddies went back to France to work. It was before the Covid-19 and I decided to stay in Mexico.
I met Esteban and started to tell him about my travel stories and experiences and he is the one who brought the idea of travel blog. After travelling together “my way” through Mexico, he totally adhered to my way of travelling, as explorers and we decided to create a blog.
I took me a long time to realise how travelling was important and how a simple trip can be lived in different way. I spend a big part of my life stuck in the everyday life routine our a mexican business owner. I’ve always likes the challenge and started very young to be into the business and sale world. I was doing great and loved it, making the pride of my parents and myself for having a successfull carrier. I was blind and obssessed by success. After getting separated with my partner and deeply affected by her attittude, I decided to leave Mexico City and change life. I moved to Cancun to start a new business. I was excited to discover another part of Mexico, the Caribbean coast, living life with a beach vibe pace. I learnt to travel around by myself, go camping on the beach, realising that I was feeling great not having much and enjoying simple things, simple places, simple comfort. I spent more time talking with local fishmen, dancers and farmers.
After another banother desapointment with my work team, I decided to move to a small village 30 minutes away from Cancun and starting my own tourism marketing business alone. Learning a lot about the Riviera Maya coast, working with tour operators and resort owners, I started to get more and more interest on the local travel industry, local agencies and economy.
At the same time, as a professionnal salsa dancer, I opened my own Dance academy. My goal was to help people through dancing to get more confident, more socials and teach my passion for dancing.
I met Mariane in a salsa night in Playa del Carmen. What pushed me to give her my contact number? Who know!!!! But it was such a good impulsion.
We met again a month later as she was back from her trip around Mexico, and spend some days together. She told me incredible travel stories and I was impressed of her way of travelling. I could not imagine it was possible. She made a spark in my mind and as she was speaking, I was only thinging about going on a trip with her. Things turned out that we were not able to go anywhere but also gave me the opportunity to find out more about travel blogging. I read many articles and got inspired. So, stucked at home, we decided to start this adventure together.
So, Here we are, Travel Blogging
During the pandemic lockdown, we were trying to think of ways to travel together, Esteban read many articles about travel bloggers making $2,500 from travel blogging each month. So, we figured out we should learn how to start a travel blog, choose a travel blog name, and hopefully make money from it to travel. Esteban has the web knowledges, Mariane the discipline and contents, so we teamed up to create this blog that we hope will be helpful.
Travel is what makes us happy. Travel is the thing that makes the two of us feel the most alive. It sets our senses on fire. It is responsible for changing our lives for the better.
The plan? To have an adventure.
